Discussion:
Rebuild from rawhide to F8 (when?)

Hi Rex,
I have updated rawhide in the office last Friday. The update went well and
clearly it fixed a lot of problems. :-)

The keyboard shortcuts are back again, the plasmoids now are more polished,
the rotation and expansions have been taken apart, when rotated they ocupy
just their are not the smallest horizontal rectangle that holds them. And so
on... it is really amazing what some weeks made in the quality of the
code... :-)

My question is then what is your intention regarding the build for F8? Are
you waiting for the official announcement?

Regards,

This is exciting. I'm game.

I haven't tried to install from kde-redhat for years. Can someone point me to
instructions for F8/x86_64?

Putting together detailed instructions would be valuable, but beyond my
means atm (time mostly). Would greatly appreciated if someone could
come up with something, and I'd be more than happy to host/post it
somewhere prominently.

The only unusual output I saw was:
...
Installing: libggz ####################### [15/63]
Installing: ggz-client-libs ####################### [16/63]
Updating : kdegames ####################### [17/63]
Cannot overwrite existing module

Other than that no problem at all when installing.

Hrm, looks like we need to update our GGZ guidelines (again).

Yep, I saw that also..

Two things first off, Plasma crashes every time I login, I will do more
digging around but wonder if anyone else is seeing this?

Also this:

Setting up Update Process
Resolving Dependencies
--> Running transaction check
--> Processing Dependency: libkjsembed.so.1 for package: krusader
---> Package kdebindings.i386 0:4.0.1-1.fc8 set to be updated
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Missing Dependency: libkjsembed.so.1 is needed by package krusader

so at the mo I have:
kdebindings-3.5.8-1.fc8
kdebindings-dcopperl-3.5.8-1.fc8

Still need Krusader for my Network, still having problems with Konq in that
regard, again more digging later on.

F8/KDE-4.0.1

OK, thanks for the reply, it's happened only once this evening maybe related
to the sys tray as I think changes have been made there. Pup and
Set-troubleshoot Applets seem to be working again. I'll check kde.bugs.

How about Kget, this does not work at all on the net/network it will just sit
there waiting for the d/l to start.

Cheers

I noticed that the printer applet and nm-applet (called as knetworkmanager)
work again. The first did not show up before 4.0.1 and the later was
forgotten for every new session.

FWIW that is true for F8 and rawhide so I suspect this is an upstream issue
or something regarding Fedora integration (unlikely).

OK, I think I may of found a similar bug report:

Not sure if this fix made into in 4.0.1?

Yes.
OK, kde-4.0.1/f8 packages are now trickling into kde-redhat/unstable repos.
I've tried to create a live images based on [fedora], [updates] and
[kde-redhat-unstable] today. It failed because yum cannot decide if it uses
kdebase4-4.0.0-2 (from [fedora]) or kdebase-4.0.1-3 form
[kde-redhat-unstable].

So far I can see the Obsoletes are set correctly. But I I'm not entirely sure
and just want to ask for a confirmation before I post this to livecd-list.

Here's the fulls list of conflicts:

[kde-redhat-unstable] today. It failed because yum cannot decide if it
[uses
kdebase4-4.0.0-2 (from [fedora]) or kdebase-4.0.1-3 form
[kde-redhat-unstable].
So far I can see the Obsoletes are set correctly. But I I'm not entirely
sure and just want to ask for a confirmation before I post this to
livecd-list.
Maybe add to kickstart:
-kdebase4
? It's a hack, of course.

yum should be respecting the Obsoletes. It (yum) still seems to prefer real
packages over virtual/Provides'd ones.

My question is then what is your intention regarding the build for
F8? Are you waiting for the official announcement?
Yes.
OK, kde-4.0.1/f8 packages are now trickling into kde-redhat/unstable repos.
I've tried to create a live images based on [fedora], [updates] and
[kde-redhat-unstable] today. It failed because yum cannot decide if it
[uses
kdebase4-4.0.0-2 (from [fedora]) or kdebase-4.0.1-3 form
[kde-redhat-unstable].

Also tried that. It's not working.
