problems with panel in KDE4

I've got two machines, one an F8 that I updated to the KDE4
packages from KDE-Redhat, and one is an experimental
installation of the F9 Alpha. On both, my panel has disappeared
and I can't get it back. Kicker still works on this one which is
the F8 box, so I have an old panel on top of KDE4. If I try to
run plasma I get the following:

plasma
<unknown program name>(13910)/ checkComposite: Plasma has an argb
visual 0x9f27150 62914561
<unknown program name>(13910)/ checkComposite: Plasma is
COMPOSITE-less on 0x9f1f1e8

any insights?

Did you enable desktop effects?
What video hardware/driver?

I lost the panel in my early tests with 4.0.0, I think as a last resort I
moved my .kde/share/config out the way, or maybe the whole .kde DIR

Did you stop Plasma first (assuming it is running) try this command,

kquitapp plasma && plasma

It helps here when my system tray Icons get messed up at boot, a problem I am
trying to get to the bottom of.

This is on my F8 box

Can I add that I use Livna's nvidia drivers, with and without desktop effects,
sadly that's why I can't use rawhide :(
