Hello Folks,

I have added the KDE weather applet to my panel but am a bit mystified as to
how to configure it.

Under Weather Service Setup -> Add weather station I have chosen Sydney,
Australia.

I get 'Kweather error. The requested station does not exist.'

Have any Australian users managed to configure this applet for Australian
cities? If so, how?

Not much help but.. I just tested Sydney here on the F 7 box and no problems,
I have seen this before when the "service" was down on some stations I
monitor.

I guess you could check (or move) your .kde/share.config/KWeatherServicerc,
that should list the real station names IE:

[WEATHERSTATIONS]
stations=YSSY,EGKK,EGSS,NZWN,KRIW,KJFK,CYYZ,LRBS,EGMC,NZAA,OERY,KLAN,KSBY,KP60

YSSY being Sydney Airport.

Cheers

Hello Colin,

Thanks for that info.

I checked the contents of the KWeatherServicerc file and the station was
Y???, can't remember, it wasn't in your list, and changed it to YSSY. Made
no difference. The error when I booted this time (Before I changed the
station identifier) was that it needed maintenance. Same error after
changing the station identifier.

Where did you obtain the list of station identifiers?

I removed the weather applet from the panel and then added it again, went
into and added both Hobart, Tasmania and Sydney, NSW, Australia. Clicked on
the update all weather stations button and the correct weather icon appeared
beside Hobart (Sunny) and Sydney (Rainy) but when I hover the mouse over the
panel icon temp., dew point etc, are all empty. clicking for an update gives
the 'Station reports that it needs maintenance. Please try a different one'
error again.

I checked the KWeatherServicerc file after re-adding the applet and I now
have
[WEATHERSTATIONS]
stations=YSSY,YMHB
Sydney, as you said, and YMHB is surely Hobart.

Still no joy, unless both stations are down for maintenance.

I'm stumped!

What do you reckon?

Regards,

Graeme.

I checked the KWeatherServicerc file after re-adding the applet and I now
have
[WEATHERSTATIONS]
stations=YSSY,YMHB
Sydney, as you said, and YMHB is surely Hobart.
There should be a file in ~/.kde/share/config called weather_panelappletrc it
should contain something like...

[General Options]
log_file_name=
logging=false
report_location=YSSY
reportview_size=450,325
smallview_mode=3
textColor=0,0,0

and indeed KWeatherServicerc should contain

[WEATHERSTATIONS]
stations=YSSY

Don't forget the empty line at the bottom of the file.

Hello Eli,

Thanks for the info. I checked both files and they contain exactly as you
listed, including the empty line.

Still doesn't work though I'm afraid.

Graeme

From the noaa site, very usefull indeed to add stations to Kweather etc that
are not in the list :)

later fixes the problem, which I would assume is there end.

A good possibility, especially if others you try work, add a few others to
test. It's also worth checking out the rc file Eli mentioned,

FYI, all stations that you have added to Kweather can *all* be seen in
Kontacts "Sumary" which is very handy indeed,

Summary>Settings>Configure Summary View.

Goodluck

Hello Colin,

I have tried a few other stations around Australia but keep getting the same
error I described.

One question though for the uninitiated, under 'DISPLAY' does one need to
enter a ICAO code. I would think that that is unnecessary but I could be
wrong of course.

Regards,

Graeme.
