When I start up noatun 2.10.0 that was included in the fedora core 6 build of
KDE 3.5.6, I get the error:

"No plugin playlist was found.  Please make sure that Noatun was install
correctly."

The backtrace:

Any ideas?  I'm trying KDE again back from a 2 year hiatus and would love to
be able to utilize this application.

Thanks!

Seriously, noatun, uh, isn't all that great of an app.

You'll be much happier using amarok.

I have the same problem .... I was using noatun because it is part of
kdemultimedia anyway, and stays on the panel on the lower right.

I will give amarok a try though.

Well, it seems that amarok is only for audio ... while noatun could
play audio AND video, so amark cannot be used as a replacement for
noatun,

I would suggest you give Kaffeine a try, you can set this to dock in the panel
as well.

Its available in extras.

Hi,

I should have mentioned that it should also play embedded videos
within konqueror.

I installed kplayer and then kaffeine.

When I had kaffeiner, konqueror would popup errors saying something
like "Unable to handle plugin ... blah...". So I uninstalled it, and
konqueror seems to be using kplayer, and konqueror is behaving a lot
better with embedded videos within a web page.

Have not tried it externally, but if player will within the browser,
then I am happy.

OK.. you needed the kaffeine-mozilla plugin, not sure if its available as an
RPM though.

mplayerplug-in works for me... although I don't tend to use kaffeine...

What does kaffeine-mozilla do that mplayerplug-in doesn't?

Thanks,

I prefer kaffeine, but have tried mplayer and that works well.

I am not sure what/if mplayer includes now or needs the win32 codecs now?

FYI I use the win32 codecs from atrpms with Kaffeine and it picks them up the
first time you run it and sets up its config.

I use kmplayer for konqueror. It works with xine, mplayer or gstreamer.
mplayerplug-in for firefox. It only works with mplayer. Either plugin works
with the codecs that you have installed. Including the win32 codecs available
from mplayer.

Stictly speaking, amarok only requires/uses the mysql-client libs. IMO,
it's a fault in fedora's mysql packaging that the client bits also pull
in the full *server* portion too.

Anyway I asked about noatun...I appreciate you telling me it's not that
great of an application, but it doesn't require MySQL.
noatun is no longer maintained, AFAIK. As another poster suggested, I'd
recommend you use kaffeine as a replacement for noatun. Alternatively,
mplayer, with or without the kmplayer front end, will handle most multimedia
formats far better than noatun (or kaffeine) would.

Amarok is a full fledged music management app, designed to handle a collection
of music from multiple sources (web, hard drive, media players, etc.). It
uses sqlite by default, but can also connect to mysql (or posgresql, I
think), which I'd guess is where the mysql requirement comes from.

You may also want to look at juk, which is not as full-featured as amarok, and
should have far fewer requirements for installation.

A lot has changed in 2 years WRT multimedia in KDE. If you tell us
specifically what are you trying to use noatun for, perhaps we'll be able to
help you choose a better app.

Regards,
Tim
