Hi,

Can someone please tell me how to switch desktops from Gnome to KDE in
Fedora 9.

There used to be a desktop switching tool but I cannot find it in F9

Kind regards,

To change your login manager to kde more permanently as root run:

echo "DISPLAYMANAGER=\"KDE\"" > /etc/sysconfig/desktop

and then restart X. to switch back to gnome either do the same but replace
KDE with GNOME or remove /etc/sysconfig/desktop and it will default back to
gnome.

Hope thats what your looking for.

Hi John,

Thank you for the information. You have taught me something that I was
looking for that I had forgotten and couldn't remember for the life of
me. Much appreciated.

There used to be a desktop switching tool but I cannot find it in F9
yum install switchdesk
but you really don't need it
at login glance down at the bottom of your screen after you've typed in your
password - there should be some options there and clicking should reveal the
option to switch to KDE - I believe the standard behavior now is to use
whatever you used last as the default unless you go into menus to change it,
so you should only have to do it once

Thank you Claude, I installed the switchdesk & switchdesk-gui packages
but you were right, once my password is entered the options show up. I
was entering my password and hitting 'Enter' straight away and didn't
notice them.

Thanks again.
