Discussion:
lost control of Navigator Toolbar

No matter where I set it, or whether I turn it off, the Navigator toolbar
appears, on next Kontact start-up, over on the left side of the window, right
next to the one that's part of the normal GUI. I end up with two columns of
icons, identical, for navigation. If I turn off the Navigator toolbar, it
will return the next time I start Kontact, in the same annoying position. If
I place it at the top, the next time I start Kontact, it returns to the left
screen position ------------ anyone else seeing this? Know how to turn it
off/control it?

I've posted the issue below previously, but no one had replied, but here's a
second try in case someone has encountered it:

The other thing about the Navigator toolbar is that it's now backwards;  what
I mean is, the icons start from the bottom and stack upwards if placed on the
left, and, if placed on the top, start from the right and proceed to the left.
There seems to be nothing that controls that behavior in options/preferences

It works for me.

I noticed that although it is not selected the navigator is in the left side
but I only see it if I press on the left border and drag it to the right. (I
am not sure how much sense this sentence does.)

That is the navigator is always there but with zero width.

Now that you mentioned I have switched on the navigator and since the last
state saved was detached it shows in a float in the same place it was used.
So now I can see the two navigator instances. Funny. :-)

Something that happens to me is that if for some reason kontact crashes
(usually one of its components - kmail) then next time the internal geometry
is borked. This happens seldom so it is not of great concern to me.

I should say that I am using F8 and that my usual layout for kmail is
three-pane (one for folders, one for the message list and another for the
message itself).

I hope this helps,

I don't think that's the Navigator toolbar - I think that's a
permanent part of the GUI which you can close or open as you
choose

Well, no so funny, if you want to make it disappear - that's my
problem - I can close it, but, the next time I open Kontact, it
reappears

I use the same layout, and both my machines are F8, but I had the
issue since a few months ago, when I was still on F7 -- I was
hoping the upgrade would make this go away, but it didn't
I guess I have to make some time to take a look at KDE bugzilla

Well, not to fix mine, but, to know it is working for someone
else is useful - thanks for replying

Does it works if you play with ~/.kde/share/config/kontactrc?

Let us see. I just modified the option to hide the navigator toolbar from
false to true. When I restarted Kontact, it came up correctly without my dual
left oriented navigation columns. Sometimes, it seems like it holds for a
restart only to return later to the behavior I've been describing...
