Thanks, I am quite impressed with the version that is present in rawhide. :-)

4.2 promises a lot and it delivers most of it already. 8-)

This is probably related :( .

Currently, I do not have update-testing enable and I'm getting the following

Addon plasma-* pkgs *will* likely have dep issues, until I can get
around to rebuilding those too.

This is the first problem report which of course is a bummer.

Sorry about my previous inquiry about PackageKit. I realized that it is a Fedora-related problem. Nothing to do with kde-redhat.

I had to add an "--exclude PackageKit*" to resolve the issue.

Thanks for all this work Rex. We do appreciate it.

According to http://techbase.kde.org/Schedules/KDE4/4.2_Release_Schedule on
techbase, beta2 will be tagged tomorrow. Is is worth waiting another week to
get beta2 rather than 4.1.80 (beta1)? As far as I can tell, there are
currently no feature/bug-fix backports on kdelibs & kdebase in Fedora CVS; so
beta2 should(!) be a straightforward recompile ;-)

I have updated. Looks very nice! I have only just seen the desktop and am about to poke and prod.

I had to uninstall digikam, digikam-libs and kipi-plugins, otherwise all went smoothly. Will these be available in a 4.2-compatible form?

On the laptop, the akonadi migration failed. Can I rerun somehow?

I had to install MySQL and MySQL-server to clear the akonadi errors and it
seems to be running now, I think you can change what it uses in System
Settings but like you I am still digging around :)

Cheers

Odd. I already had them installed. I doubt that it is a big deal. I don't even know what akonadi is. There used to be somewhere where one could start it, but it never seemed to do anything. This is likely a clue.

It's looking better every minute :-) And I am thrilled that it just accepted my previous settings, so I haven't had to adjust anything so far.

I think it is partly working (its work in progress) and you can configure,
start and stop it in the system settings. The problem I had was when starting
Kmail it threw up the MySQL errors, clicking on the error in the d/box told me
what the problem was :-)

It certainly is good and have only run into one small problem so far this
evening which is reported on kde.bugs #176349

I had to kill plasma and mv my plasma rc files out the way, but most likely
due to some custom packages I had, which are now not needed.

One thing I can't seem to find is to change Kmail's message window background
colour as it has now defaulted to white.

Cheers

I noticed that strigi is not working:
Failed to contact Strigi indexer (No such method 'currentFolder' in interface 'org.kde.nepomuk.Strigi' at object path '/nepomukstrigiservice' (signature ''))

I wonder what that is.

Not sure, I just enabled Strigi/Nepomuk and its seem to be indexing my home
folder OK. Lets see what other's find.

What I did is to set the background colour in System Settings/Look&Feel/Colours/Colours Tab/View Background and it is taken over by kmail, with the exception of html emails that specify a background colour.

a couple of observations since it's getting real late where I am:

after logging out and back in, my screen dimmed 50% - it took some fiddling
around and it turned out to be in kpowersave where I had to drag the
brightness down from 100% and back up again - that seemed to reset things and
all is well

Kmail is really not to my liking now; they've introduced this grouping feature
in the message list which I really don't want and can't seem to turn off, or at
least I haven't found the way how, and they've compounded the problem by
taking two lines to list every message now in the message list, with the
subject on the first line and the sender and other stuff on the next - I find it
really irritating that my quick scan of the message list only sees half as
much as I used to, and actually even less because of the space taken up by the
grouping feature - hopefully, these things are all configurable

otherwise, the update was painless, and other stuff stands up well on first
glance

I knew I should have waited. It's all configurable with the little buttons on
the right just above the message list - options are good, the new features
will be welcomed by some, and I get to keep the expansive view I have come to
prefer...
