Discussion:
desktop-effects with KDE on F7

After trying desktop effect on gnome in F7, I was trying if I get the
same effects in kde. However, I don't get the wobbling effects, but I
do
recognise that menus are somewhat animated ( drawn from small, then
bigger and bigger until it reaches its normal size ), or a sliding
effect. All of this is actual fast, so perhaps the only reason I
noticed it was because I was conscious that I enabled desktop effects
in Gnome.

Looking at KDE Control Center, there is now a Beryl option under
"Appearance and Themes". This option shows Opacity and Shadows. Under
the "Style" option in Control Panel and then the "Effects" toolbar, I
also see "Enable GUI Effects" which is checked, and they all have the
"Animate" option selected, except for the "Menu tear-off handles"
which has "Application Level".

So my questions are:

1) How do I have wobbling windows in KDE ?
2) How do I have cube workspaces in KDE ?

is checked, but the windows are not wobbling when moved.

In the basic tab, try exanding shiver and ensuring that it's on. Then Click on
the advanced tab and expand move, there you will need to experiment with the
type of windows that you want to wobble when you move the.

OK ... I am a little stumped. The "shiver" option was not checked, now
I have it checked. I also selected all types of windows in the
Advanced tab ... but still no wobbly windows. Also did a "Reload
Window Manager" from Beryl Manager .... and a reboot. I must be
missing something basic, since it works in Gnome. I presume I don't
have to "save" the new settings, as there is no option to do that
except for import and export. Besides, after a reboot, the new
settings that I made were preserved.

Anyway ... I recall seeing a kberylsettings screenshot. Hopefully that
will do it, but it does not seem to be either in fedora or kde-redhat
repos.

I'm a little stumped myself and I must be missing something basic as
well. I've only recently started playing around with Beryl. I can tell
you is that yes, after exiting out of the beryl manager your settings
are preserved. Try playing with 3d effects. Did you choose an
appropriate theme from Aquarius theme manager?

At the moment, I'm away from my desktop, so I can't be much more help
right now. I will try to look into it further in the coming days and
let you know what I come up with.

OK...

I think I found the exact setting. In Wobbly Windows click on the advanced
setting tab. Expand move and then make sure that the Move Effect Check box
is Checked on.

Unfortunately, I have that option checked already.

I don't have an Aquarius theme manager, but I have Emerald theme
manager. I have not selected any themes nor have I changed any themes,
since I would like to keep my current theme but just have these
desktop effects on .... or are the themes necessary to have the
desktop effects on KDE ? ( Note that I did not have to change themes
in Gnome to get desktop effects working in Gnome ).

I don't have an Aquarius theme manager, but I have Emerald theme
oops... I meant Emerald. Don't know why I wrote Aquarius. Must be old age
creeping in :).

In any case, the Beryl theme managers only handle the Windows decorations. Try
one. See if that helps.

Oh.... one other "dumb" question. In the Beryl manager, under select Windows
managers, you have selected Beryl?... right?...

Eli
That's it. I knew it was something simple. It was set to KWin.
Anyway, Berly draws blank black windows, while Compiz works better
except that my window title and border are "gone" / transparent,
except for the window corners.

Thanks. I'll tweak it a bit.

You will need to choose and Emerald Theme.

This is as far as I got. If you find a remedy for the missing
title/borders issue please post.

Thanks,
