fedora/7/testing repo contains pretty much what we intend to ship KDE in
F7. Feedback please! (and fast, final freeze is looming soon).

Later, I plan on backporting, rebuilding these for fc6 (and eventually
el4/el5), but I could try to do this earlier, if there's demand.

(Else, we all can just wait for kde-3.5.7 which is looming real soon now
too).

There are two things that I noticed this week, probably after the first
update after test 4:

- in kdm the password starts reverted to a * instead of · (the larger
version),

- there is no visual feedback that I am muting the laptop or
increasing/decreasing the sound volume, using the applet in the system tray I
can see that the buttons work it is only the visual feedback that is missing.

Hmm... you're right. Is it a big deal? worthy of changing?

I've *never* seen visual feedback, ever. If you can come up with a
recipe to make it work (again), I'd be eternally grateful.

I have installed the upgrades.

The password characters are back, more simple ascii stars (*s). :-)

Konqueror fonts have changed, I had a session with lots of pages opened and
the new fonts are smaller than before.

Another thing that I have noticed is that some configurations had changed,
the kweather applet now shows temperature in Fahrenheit, wind speeds in Mph
and pressures in inches of Hg. This has changed.

I noticed that some of my configurations have been override, the paper
format and the measure systems, for example.

Other than this all works and I did not notice any change.

Yep, time, currency, temps are now US-centric defaults. (I guess I
didn't realize Fedora's previous packaging was different, kde-redhat
ones have been this way for a *long* time).

One other problem I have noticed is that my desktop directory was changed
from ~/Desktop to /

Probably another problems with configurations...

The fonts from my kde configuration were ignored and reset to default, I
think this is the problem I am getting.

Eek. fwiw, kde is now using xdg-user-dirs for this, so what does:
xdg-user-dir DESKTOP
say?
(ie, what's contained in ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs )?

Can't fathom how/why that would happen.
What were they previously?

The gtk was updated recently because at one point kde was not running due me
interrupting yum (and thus rpm) at the wrong time. I swear that I don't use
it. ;-)

Not that you care BTW. :-D

Hrm, crap. It's in the default package list for the F7 KDE spin/livecd
though, but thanks for the catch. You rock.

I'll fix that asap.

Can I add my voice to the requesting list for the el4/el5 rebuilds please. I
really miss some of the things that I know that kde-redhat provides, things
like amarok and kaffeine.

Those *are* available already for el4, so I assume you're really talking
only about el5? :)

I noticed while updating Susana's laptop to F7 that kdepim in kde-stable
does not have some .la libraries and so some kdeparts don't work.

The case that triggered this finding was kontact not showing the
configuration. We had to enable kde-testing* to fix this since the version
there had this particular problem solved.

Searching for kdepim reveals the following packages:
$ repoquery kdepim --show-dupes --qf "%{name}-%{version}-%{release} %{repoid}"
kdepim-3.5.6-7.fc7 kde-testing
kdepim-3.5.6-4.fc7 fedora
kdepim-3.5.6-6.fc7 kde
kdepim-3.5.6-4.fc7 kde

Since the version in the stable branch trumps the version available in
fedora 7 I propose that you move the packages from testing to stable now that
F7 has been released.

kdepim-3.5.6-7.fc7 should address that.

(I had tried previously to build that as part of f7, but the builds had
failed mysteriously on fedora's koji buildsystem, even though they build
fine for me here in mock).
