I just upgraded to F8, and *poof*, knetworkmanager has been replaced by a
shell script that start nm-applet.

Any reason for this?

nm-applet does not seem to work with kwallet that contains all my wireless
identities.

knetworkmananger doesn't (yet) work with f8's NetworkManager >= 0.7, so
that was our hack, until the situation improved.

See also the f8 release notes, which mentions this:

Ok, thanks for the info. Hmm, now I need to figure out how to use the
gnome-keyring-daemon...
Ok, I seem to be completely blank on gnome. Can anyone guide me in the right
direction on how to use nm-applet?

It seems to work with the wired network as the icon changes when I plug the tp
cable into the laptop. But it does not seem to get the wireless network info
from NetworkManager. nm-tool lists a lot of access points, but none of them
makes it into the nm-applet menu. The gnome keyring daemon runs and inserts
the right env vars into my shell, but how do I insert my passwords for
wireless access into it?

Any hints are greatly appreciated.

It should simply prompt for password(s), when/if needed.

Yes, it does indeed work. It just took a while before it gets the info from
NetworkManager. In addition you need to left-click in nm-applet instead of
right-click as in knetworkmanager to get the list of detected access points
(still slapping my forehead).

Thanks for the patience and have a nice weekend,
