It seems mDNSResponder does not work anymore with Fedora Core 6 all queries
send to it gives an error I had to find a package nss-mdns-0.10-2.fc8.src.rpm
and rebuild it myself to get the zeroconf working under KDE.

It took me better part of a day to find this out.

Maybe you could provide that instead of mDNSResponder.
