I can't seem to get subscribed to fedora-list, so I'm trying here, in
the hope that someone will have an idea....
I've been having a lot of problems with the optical drives in my new
machine. The machine itself is a quad core Intel on an ASUS P5N32-E
motherboard. I thought for a while that the problem was using old EIDE
drives, as the problems I was seeing mostly had to do with them. But
now, after replacing the old DVD burner with a new SATA model, I'm
getting similar errors. Here, for example is everything from the logs
relevant to an instance today:
Jan 11 18:17:45 rghquad kernel: ata6: SATA max UDMA/133 cmd

Jan 11 21:00:37 rghquad kernel: ata6: reset failed, giving up
Jan 11 21:00:37 rghquad kernel: ata6.00: disabled
Jan 11 21:00:37 rghquad kernel: ata6: EH complete
Other times, with the EIDE drives, it's soft resets, but the story is
much the same in various cases. Anyone have any ideas?
Cheers,
Richard
